We recognize that for those who choose to pursue social work, it's not just a degree program, but a calling. Our bachelor of social work program prepares students for meaningful, people-centered careers that empower them to make a positive impact in their communities. A rigorous academic environment combined with ample experiential learning opportunities means students will gain a firm understanding of the practices and principles of social work, then apply them in field placements at schools, government and healthcare institutions and social service agencies throughout the state. Small class sizes enable students to develop real relationships with faculty who are experienced practitioners in their profession.

Nonprofit Studies
About this Program
Nonprofit studies is a 16-credit course of study that provides students with knowledge and skills appropriate for challenging professional positions in the growing nonprofit sector in Rhode Island and beyond. Program participants learn how nonprofit organizations are established and administered; how they serve different segments of society; how they are funded and the role of philanthropy; how their programs are planned, budgeted and evaluated; how reliable client data are collected and analyzed; and how human resources, legal and ethical problems are resolved.
Why ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ?
Courses are taught by ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ faculty and professional experts drawn from community-based organizations, with an emphasis on real-world experiences and case studies. Students interested in establishing careers in a wide variety of fields – ranging from philanthropy, education and human services to community development, environmental conservation and the visual or performing arts – will benefit from exposure to the world of nonprofit organizations.

About this Program
This program caters to students wishing to improve social conditions and change people’s lives. Our curriculum prepares aspiring graduates to alleviate injustice and inequality and enhance the quality of their clients’ lives. Areas of practice include working with children and families, people with substance use disorders and/or mental illness, those experiencing trauma, the elderly, disabled and other marginalized populations. A primary goal is to teach students to work in culturally affirming, anti-racist and strengths-based ways with all populations.
Why ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ?
This program offers a strengths-based, student-centered, social justice-oriented approach to social work practice. We help our students understand the importance of systemic injustice in the lives of our clients, and the critical work of alleviating it. We also provide high quality practice skills and two semesters of an internship to prepare students who are excellent practitioners and/or ready for graduate school.
